Challenge

Our client, a leading UK asset manager, was sued by HM Revenue & Customs over alleged misrepresentations made in negotiations to settle an historic tax bill.  As a result, a lot of complex and expensive litigation started to play out in the courts leading to media scrutiny.

What we did

Kendal was immediately instructed for crisis support and communications advice and to ensure that the client’s side of the story was heard. Kendal acted immediately to set up a 24 hour press office, handling enquiries from national, regional and trade media using prepared reactive statements and off-the-record briefings. As a company with government clients, our client also needed advice on an immediate political and regulatory engagement strategy in order to reassure stakeholders that the company was in control of the situation.

Result

Through our work, the client was able to successfully achieve a more balanced communications environment and maintain trust with key stakeholders including government, media, investors and staff.
